Non-Invasive Prenatal Screening Test (NIPT) £399

Bloods are now taken at the clinic during your scan appointment

NIPT testing represents an innovative DNA-based blood screening method designed to assess the risk of Down syndrome (trisomy 21) as early as 10 weeks into pregnancy. East London Numi Scan provides NIPT Testing, offering enhanced accuracy compared to traditional Down syndrome blood tests. This increased accuracy minimises the likelihood of false-positive results when compared to conventional testing methods, such as the first-trimester screening test. Consequently, this reduces the probability of your doctor recommending further diagnostic testing, such as amniocentesis.

Non-Invasive Prenatal Screening Test (NIPT)

Harmony/NIPT Testing

Harmony/NIPT Testing involves the analysis of foetal DNA fragments present in the mother's blood during pregnancy. The Harmony Prenatal Test utilises a blood sample to predict the risk of Down syndrome (Trisomy 21) and specific other genetic conditions. Additionally, NIPT testing allows for the optional assessment of foetal sex at no extra cost. It's important to note that NIPT does not screen for non-chromosome disorders, familial mutations, malformations, foetal growth, or foetal viability.

Who Is The NIPT Test For?

NIPT Screening is accessible to women with pregnancies of at least a 10-week gestation period. The test is applicable to both single and twin pregnancies, irrespective of whether conception occurred naturally or through IVF using the patient's or a donor's egg. In twin pregnancies, the analysis of sex chromosomes (X and Y) can determine foetal sex but does not identify sex chromosome conditions. As a result, the test is not suitable for cases involving a vanishing twin. The determination of the sex of twins is provided as a single result - if male, one or both twins will be male, and if female, both twins will be female.

What Does NIPT Screening Cover?

• The most accurate non-invasive screening for 3 most common anomalies
• The most accurate non-invasive test for gender confirmation
• No GP Referral is needed at Numi Scan East London
• Supersedes the nuchal, quadruple or integrated test
• Second opinion after a non-reassuring or a missed 12-week screening
• £399 includes an early pregnancy scan
• 3 Complimentary black and white pictures
• Convenient for East London patients

Note that NIPT testing does not assess the risk for mosaicism, partial trisomies or translocations

Trusted Worldwide

NIPT testing is validated for pregnant women of any age or risk category and is trusted by clinicians worldwide.

3 Steps To Accurate Trisomy 21 Screening

1. Early Pregnancy Scan
2. Blood Test (in clinic)
3. Results In 2-5 Working Days (once the lab is in receipt of blood)

What Does NIPT Testing Primarily Test For?

As early as 10 weeks the NIPT Test screens for the risk of 3 major syndromes:
- Trisomy 21(Down syndrome)
- 18 (Edward syndrome)
- 13 (Patau syndrome)

What The NIPT Test Will Not Detect

The NIPT test is not designed to identify physical abnormalities such as heart or brain issues, spina bifida, or foetal growth concerns. To ensure comprehensive foetal anatomy assessment, at East London Numi Scan it is advisable to complement the NIPT test with NHS ultrasound scans at 11-13 and 20-22 weeks, and at 30-32 weeks if necessary for growth evaluation.

The VeriSeq NIPT Solution V2 is not validated for pregnancies involving more than two foetuses, foetal demise, mosaicism, partial chromosome aneuploidy, triploidy, translocations, maternal aneuploidy, transplant, malignancy, or neural tube defects. The accuracy of the test may be influenced by certain rare biological conditions.

It's crucial to note that a low probability outcome does not guarantee the absence of chromosomal or genetic conditions in the foetus. Some non-aneuploid foetuses may produce high-probability results. Confirmatory testing is essential for diagnoses in cases of high probability results or other clinical indications of a chromosomal condition.

Twin Pregnancies

In twin pregnancies, a heightened likelihood applies to at least one foetus. Male results pertain to either one or both foetuses, while female results relate to both. Inaccuracies may arise from the limitations of the test.
